Introducing The SOS Fire Truck!
This state of the art vehicle is equipped with a powerful d&b audiotechnik sound system, stages, media room and an LED message screen, meaning we are now set to bring the party anywhere at any time.
The fire truck is a symbol of Save Our Scene’s commitment to supporting grassroots music and doing what we can to help prevent venues from closing down.
Following the release of the Chancellor's Autumn Budget and with yet another disregard for our fragile sector we thought what better time to release our own emergency response vehicle.
Our partners at Music Venue Trust have released a Budget Statement, stating “Despite extensive briefing to HM Treasury, Department of Culture, Media and Sport and Department for Business and Trade about the negative economic, social and cultural impacts of the removal of the 75% business rate relief for Grassroots Music Venues, the Government has today announced that business rate relief will reduce to 40% from April 1st, 2025.”
“Over 350 Grassroots Music Venues are now placed at immediate risk of closure, representing the potential loss of more than 12,000 jobs, over £250 million in economic activity and the loss of over 75,000 live music events. Simultaneously with announcing this new tax demand, the Government acknowledged the faults and inequities inherent in the business rate system, promising to deliver a new lower rate of taxes on physical, hospitality and leisure premises in April 2026.”
The NTIA have also criticised the Autumn Budget and have said “The UK night-time economy contributes billions to the national economy and supports crucial cultural and community spaces that promote social well-being and community safety. In failing to address the unique pressures faced by these businesses, the government’s budget places an irreplaceable sector on a precarious edge.”
Sacha Lord, Night Time Economy Advisor for Greater Manchester said, “The night-time economy has been an integral part of our cultural and economic history. It’s more than just a night out; it’s where friendships are forged, creativity flourishes, and local economies thrive. The current trajectory spells disaster not only for the businesses themselves but for the communities they serve. We cannot afford to lose these spaces—they are the lifeblood of our cities.”
This also comes after they issued a grave warning to the public: the UK’s vibrant nightlife which is the heartbeat of our cities and communities, is on the brink of extinction.
How can you help right now? Email Your MP here to ensure there's not ever a #LastNightOut in our world-renowned sector.
What are we doing to support? Well our new vehicle for change will help us continue to reach new audiences across the UK by collaborating with artists across the UK live music spectrum, both emerging and major to deliver unforgettable experiences for fans, all over.
There's also an exciting announcement coming soon with our partners at Music Venue Trust but most importantly, we cannot wait to get these shows on the road. Stay tuned x
